I was stationed in Key West back in the 80s. Great party! I visited the Keys in 2006. Unfortunately, Key West has been overtaken by a bunch of rich brats. I miss the days when you would get whistled at by the gays (ops, people with an alternate lifestyle preference) and had to step over the homeless hippies living out their dream of a retro sixty community.
I was born and raised in Key West and this is a great video! Thank you so much for keeping the spirit of Key West alive!!
I always rented a car in Jacksonville, then take my time driving down to Key West stopping along the way. More to Florida then just Key West. Then when I arrive I park the rental and rent a scooter to get around on. My usual stay is 2 weeks total.
I take AmTrak across country from Los Angeles to Jacksonville Florida. Very relaxing vacation.
Been there many times.
Two things: The sunrise was MUCH more spectacular than the sunset.
Many other keys between Miami are worth the trip.
Good report!
Love living in Marathon!!!!
Two additions: for culture, there’s lots of art places too and for food, don’t skip out on the Cuban food!
I spent years in Key West with the USNavy and really miss it. I enjoyed the video seeing some of the changes.
@n. vater wait what? Why is who so mean? The child who said, “Too many gays!”. That’s who you mean right?
@Steve Rich x
@Ann Hanover you mean El Siboney.
The Conch Train is almost universally dispised by locals who aren’t snowbirds.
Any suggestions on reasonable priced steak and seafood restaurants?
I just moved from downtown miami to key west. One of the best decisions ive ever made!
Sorry that drive SUCKS
I get a convertible rental for 1 day from FLL > KW. When I get to KW, I drop my bags off then return the car same day. BEST way to get there – enjoyable drive and no need to keep the car once youre there!
@gardini100 if you’re looking for paradise, you’ll be disappointed with Key West.
It’s an awesome drive! Love it
I was just there and yes cops are stationed but no one is in the cars which I found interesting
That’s my only criticism I’m surprised he didn’t mention the little Key Deer. Other than that I really really really want to go. I’m from Florida and I haven’t been yet
There are Key Deer on Big Pine through Sugarloaf.
Fort Taylor is open to the public, and is slightly further South, but does it really matter? 😀
Correct. I believe the southernmost point on Key West is on a military base.
@goblinb Hawaii actually is the southern most point of America. Key West only claims southern most point of continental America, so both are correct
There is also a place in Hawaii that claims the same thing.
Good Call on the early startand especially good call on Blue Heaven; that place is amazing
Im a KW native and I now live on Maui and I always took for granted how you can see the sunrise and sunset from anywhere! I live on the Westside and we only see sunsets!
@Da He We go to bed late AND get up early. No big deal…
We’re early risers too, and we go to the beach daily to watch the sunrise. You’re right, everything is quiet, no crowds, and it’s easy to get breakfast after 🙂
@Da He Absolutely, and its really good that not everybody enjoys the same things. If that would be the case, I think it would be very boring. Myself, early riser but no night time person. And thats just me, and its neither wrong or right. As you said, what’s good for you is not good for others.
i’m from a Conch family. Sunrise is way better than sunset, always beautiful serene usually less people beat way to start the day.
The whole Conch thing is only an issue if you make it one.
@G Born in Key west and I’m hispanic…
Good for them. Lol.
Or honorary conch.
@JT Cowboy It is for sure, I drive in from Orlando and It is half the fun of going is driving on that highway and seeing all the sights and novelties on the way. plus parking is not that hard to manage if you stay at a hotel with parking lot like La Concha.
I think that’s part of the fun of going to Key West for me.
@pinned Lamont at LÄ…rge no chance you investment guys are all thieves.
EVERYONE BEWARE!!!
@Shaun Murphy arreggghhh
I saw one in 2019 . The manatee was so cool to see.
@Idaho Sixgun like the buffoons who destroyed Venezuela.
But even Europe. It’s becoming a Socialist world order slowly
@paul tanner This could not be more true. Unfortunately, the takers out number the producers in this country. The takers are doing their best to destroy it as fast as they can. Once they succeed, they’ll soon wish they could go back in time.
@Sean Ciccarone He’s 100% correct. So awesome to live in the most beautiful place in the world where immigrants of all colors and cultures come to and thrive. But the professional victims who are given everything and appreciate nothing try to give it a bad name. Greatest country in the world!
@Sean Ciccarone He’s right. All he needed to add was the Communist, Marxist, Socialist Democrats who despise this great nation & try pushing racism where it doesn’t exist. Whom by the way, should be forced to pick a country of their choosing & sent there 1 way. How’s that chief?
@Sean Ciccarone Nope I sure couldnt
Too late, the reef’s been dead for a long time.
Yes..con leche my favorite
Thank you for your service!
@paul tanner new years
We drive down from Michigan every year. We love it
@pinned Lamont at LÄ…rge INVESTMENT THIEVES!!!!!
